A delegation of
traditional leaders from the Lunda-Norte and Lunda-Sul provinces, the
diamond-rich areas in the northeast of Angola, traveled to Luanda to denounce
the systematic violations of human rights in their communities.
The chiefs
delivered a petition today, January 9, to the office of the Attorney-General of
the Republic, general João Maria Moreira de Sousa, asking the judicial
authorities to travel to the Lundas and investigate the plight of their
communities on the ground.
The delegation,
which includes Mwambumba, Zovo, Mwanitete e MwaCapenda Camulemba, represents
more than 100 traditional chiefs of the Cuango (Cuango, Cafunfo and Luremo) and
Xá-Muteba municipalities.
The chiefs
traveled more than 430 miles (700 kilometers) to denounce more than 500 torture
cases, as well as over 100 assassination cases by members of the Angolan Armed
Forces and Teleservice.
